404 is a mercenary outfit offering services typically to the highest bidder, but primarily plays on TR due to the faction being what outfit co-founder Sol has started on in PlanetSide 1. Ardent and Sol are real life friends and Ardent was brought into PlanetSide 2 by Sol. After a short time within CIK, Sol had left after figuring CIK's playstyle was not for them, and the people he had brought with him to CIK had followed him to form 404.
404 had started as: simply an outfit that Sol knew that most would not recognize through his lack of reputation. Taking advantage of the lack of the limelight, 404 initially started as a behind-the-lines special operations outfit that based itself around behind the lines sabotage of both player bases and hex bases alike - curtailing logistics of bigger outfits such as Wild Cards and No Fear in 2020 by surgically striking router bases and other important areas: Often taking out Elysium Spawn Tubes and deconstructing the base before a valid response force was able to do their job.
This changed Connery's way of basebuilding and forced Outfits to adapt to would be sabotage: But these surgical strikes would help decide the outcome of some alerts. As the outfit gained infamy and notoriety for "dishonorable" play in striking player bases, so too did Sol and his ragtag commandoes gain their experience: devising new ways to fight as well as making it so squads themselves are designed to be stronger together than they are alone. 404's big break of fame however, was a sudden and unexpected appearance in the Bastion Lane Smash of 2020 in Connery: With Ardent finally joining the outfit and 404 making their first appearance in a full squad to man the bastion. The bastion lasted roughly five minutes, capitulating after a suicide bomb from S3X1's bastion, being brought down soon after by VS air support. Furthermore, 404 ran module installations for Air on the Warpgate and provided it for TR.
It was in 2021-2022 that Sol realised the need to form 404's numbers into squads with different purposes. Presently, the squads are:
Delta Squad (SpecOps/Assault Squad, led by BlackDragonSolar, co-led by Khione), 11 members Alpha Squad (Rear Echelon Squad, led by Ardentstorm), 6 members. Xi Squad (Mechanised Squad, led by HaloConspiracies [AgustinHaskell], and co-led by GretelHexenjaeger), 6 members, Epsilon Squad (Paratroopers, 2 members.) And Pi Squad (Armoured, led by DesertDragoon and co-led by Rdething), 2 members.
Former Squads include: Kappa Squad (Airborne, consolidated into Delta due to similar skills.)
In 2022, 404 joined with TLFT (The Lost Frontier) and CXQB (The Terran Kings) to form the alliance TQNA (The Found Queens of Sodium).
As of 2022/15/09, 404 had gotten it's new tag, no longer being known as 'R404', to which their old tag represents them on Emerald. As of 2023/25/01, Sol had given 404 a new outfit decal.
